Freestyle Libre
Connect FreeStyle Libre to diab.ninja Nightscout, monitor glucose remotely, and share reports with your doctor.
Freestyle Libre Connecting the Abbott Freestyle Libre Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) sensor to diab.ninja lets you view glucose levels remotely, analyze reports, and share them with family, friends, or doctors. The guide below shows, step by step, how to send data from a Freestyle Libre sensor to Nightscout hosted on diab.ninja. What is Freestyle Libre? FreeStyle Libre is a continuous glucose monitoring system (CGM/FGM) that lets you check glucose levels without routine finger pricks, using a sensor worn on the arm and an app or reader. The Freestyle Libre sensor entered the global market in 2014 . Supported FreeStyle Libre sensors: Freestyle Libre 1 Freestyle Libre 2 (US and EU versions) Freestyle Libre 2 Plus Freestyle Libre 3 How to connect Freestyle Libre and diab.ninja Nightscout? Freestyle Libre 1 Hardly anyone uses this today, but if you still have these sensors, Libre 1 technically did not have built-in Bluetooth communication. To collect data from it, you had to keep scanning the sensor with a phone (NFC) or use add-on transmitters such as Bluecon, MiaoMiao, Bubble, Droplet, or the Polish Transmiter. Dedicated apps were available for this, as well as xDrip+ (Android) and Zukka (xDrip4IOS for iPhone iOS). How to set up Libre 1 with xDrip+: Install xDrip+ on your phone Connect and configure the transmitter on your phone in the xDrip+ app Configure xDrip+ to send data to Nightscout: In Nightscout Sync, enter the URL of your instance URL format for xDrip+: https://API-TOKEN@instance.diab.ninja/api/v1/ Freestyle Libre 2 (US/EU) This sensor has built-in Bluetooth, so connecting it to a phone is easier and you do not need an additional transmitter. How to set up Libre 2 with Juggluco (Android): Install Juggluco on your phone Connect and configure the sensor on your phone in the Juggluco app (the sensor can be started through the Juggluco app!) Configure data upload to Nightscout: In Settings, enter the instance URL and API Token How to set up Libre 2 (EU only or 2+) with Zukka (iOS/iPhone): Install Zukka from the Apple Store Launch the Zukka app, set the phone as Master, and select Bluetooth CGM as the source for Libre 2 (EU or 2+) Then configure data upload to Nightscout in diab.ninja Another option for diab.ninja users is to use the LibreLink (LibreView) app. Your phone sends data there (to Libre servers), and we retrieve it and feed it into Nightscout in diab.ninja. To configure this, please submit a request in the User Panel. The following information will be needed: LibreLinkUp user account LibreLinkUp user password Common problems when connecting Freestyle Libre Transmitter problems - the signal is often lost when the transmitter is out of the phone's range or when its battery is weak. Check battery-saving settings on your Android phone and allow the app to run in the background. The app does not detect the sensor - this is a common problem. Always keep the Abbott app up to date, and first try scanning the sensor using NFC on your phone or use the Juggluco app. Good practices for Libre + Nightscout Keep the transmitter/sensor close to your phone to avoid disconnections Android is usually the better choice because it gives you more options For iOS, consider using the Zukka app Disable battery optimization on Android Regular backups protect you from losing glucose data and app settings The transmitter should have a battery in good condition - replace and/or recharge it while the sensor is active Integration with LibreView/LibreLinkUp and configuration of this solution require a request in the User Panel
