Uploaders - Sending Data
Set up CGM, xDrip+, and Nightscout uploaders so data reaches phones, watches, and caregivers. Check your data flow and settings now
Uploaders - Sending Data Data Flow and Followers How data moves from a CGM sensor to your watch, phone, and caregivers - and what Followers are and how to use them. How does the data flow? Data follows a clear path - from the source, through the uploading app, to the cloud, where followers and caregivers can read it. CGM sensor or insulin pump Measures glucose levels and/or records insulin delivery Source ↓ Uploading app (Uploader / Master) xDrip+, Dexcom, Loop, Trio, AAPS - collects data and sends it to the cloud Uploader ↓ Nightscout / diab.ninja Central hub - stores data, provides an API, generates reports Hub ↓ Followers / Reports / Caregivers Apps, watches, physical devices, clinicians - read the data Follower Followers Mobile apps Smartwatch Physical devices Browser iPhone, Samsung, Android Apple Watch, Samsung Watch, Xiaomi Mi Band, Garmin m5 alarm clock Any web browser Mobile apps - details App Platform Description xDrtp+ Android Follower/Uploader - configurable, supports notifications and sound alarms Zukka iOS/iPhone The app is based on xDrip4iOS - available in the App Store The sensor/pump does not communicate with Nightscout directly. It needs an intermediary app on a phone or a dedicated device. If data stops updating - check the uploader and internet connection first. Nightscout/ diab.ninja is stable; the issue is usually on the uploading app side. Sharing data with caregivers and clinicians Caregivers can follow data on their own devices using separate access tokens Doctors/diabetologists can review reports and historical data One caregiver account can monitor multiple users 🔒 Access is controlled by tokens. Grant third parties read-only access - never share an administrator token! Troubleshooting Symptom Where to check? Data is not updating Check the uploader - the app on the patient's phone Data is delayed Check the internet connection on the uploader device The Follower cannot see data Check access settings and tokens in Nightscout The profile setting does not change The profile is controlled by the APS app, not Nightscout No data after sensor replacement Restart/reconfigure the uploader after pairing the sensor Nightscout/ diab.ninja is a hub - not a controller, and it does not calculate insulin doses Followers can read data on many devices at the same time! xDrip+ xDrip+ setup: Open xDrip+ Go to Settings → Cloud Upload → Nightscout Sync (REST-API) Turn on "Enable REST API Upload" Enter the URL: https://API_SECRET@twoja-instancja.diab.ninja/api/v1/ Replace API_SECRET with your API password Other uploaders You can find setup instructions for other uploaders (Spike, Glimp, Medtronic, Tidepool, etc.) in the official Nightscout documentation. Loop / AAPS If you use a closed-loop system (Loop, AndroidAPS), configure Nightscout as the endpoint for sending data.
