xDrip+ - installation, configuration, and connection to Nightscout xDrip+ is a free Android app that turns your phone into a receiver for glucose sensor (CGM) data. It collects readings from many popular sensors, lets you configure custom alerts, keep a logbook, and send data to Nightscout. This guide explains how to install and configure it and how to check that everything is working properly. What is xDrip+? xDrip+ is an open-source app developed by the diabetes community. It runs exclusively on Android. Think of it as a data hub: it connects to your sensor, receives readings, and turns them into charts, statistics, and alerts. It supports Dexcom G4/G5/G6/G7, FreeStyle Libre (with an additional transmitter such as MiaoMiao, Bubble, or Blucon), Medtronic 640G/780G, Medtrum, Eversense, and some Bluetooth glucose meters. With xDrip+, you can: receive glucose readings every few minutes, set low and high glucose alerts and predicted low alerts, keep a logbook for insulin, meals, and notes, share data with another phone using the Follower feature, send data to Nightscout so you can access it from anywhere. A typical data flow looks like this: Sensor / transmitter ↓ xDrip+ (Android phone) ↓ Nightscout / diab.ninja ↓ Browser, phone, watch, follower Tip: If you do not have a working Nightscout instance yet, configure it first using the instructions at diab.ninja. xDrip+ works on its own, but connecting it to Nightscout makes your data available on any device. What do you need? An Android phone (version 8.0 or later, according to the official xDrip+ documentation). A CGM sensor or transmitter compatible with xDrip+ (for example Dexcom, Libre, CamAPS, or Medtrum). An active Nightscout instance, for example https://your-name.diab.ninja . Your API_SECRET - the Nightscout password you set during configuration. Do not share it publicly. Internet access on your phone for uploading data. Warning: xDrip+ is not available on Google Play. Download it only from the official GitHub repository or the developer's website. Avoid unofficial sources. Step-by-step configuration Step 1: Download and install xDrip+ Open this page on your phone: https://github.com/NightscoutFoundation/xDrip/releases . Find the Releases section and download the APK file named xdrip-plus-[version].apk , preferably the latest stable release. If your phone asks for permission to install apps from unknown sources, allow it. After installation, you can restore your previous security settings. Open xDrip+ and accept the information and disclaimers provided by the developer. Step 2: Grant permissions and disable battery optimization xDrip+ needs to keep running in the background. Otherwise, it may stop receiving sensor data. Go to your phone's Settings → Apps → xDrip+ . Under Battery , select Don't optimize (or Unrestricted ). Allow notifications - xDrip+ uses them to remain active. In xDrip+, go to Settings → Less Common Settings → Other Miscellaneous Options and enable Run Collector in foreground . Step 3: Choose a data source In xDrip+, open the menu (three lines in the top-left corner) → Settings . Select Data Source (or Hardware Data Source ). Select the appropriate sensor type: For Dexcom: Dexcom G6/G7 (or an older version). For Libre with MiaoMiao/Bubble/Blucon: LibreAlarm (or the appropriate adapter). For other systems: choose the compatible model from the list. If you use Libre, remember that the sensor must first be started in the official app or reader. Then select Start Sensor in xDrip+ and follow the on-screen instructions. Troubleshooting: If you do not see any readings after selecting the data source, make sure the sensor is active and within Bluetooth range. Step 4: Configure the Nightscout connection (Cloud Upload) From the xDrip+ menu, select Settings . Go to the Cloud Upload section. Open Nightscout Sync (REST-API) . Enable Enabled so the switch turns green. In the Base URL field, enter: https://your_api_secret@your-name.diab.ninja/api/v1/ Replace your_api_secret with your actual API_SECRET (your Nightscout password). Replace your-name.diab.ninja with the address of your instance. Make sure the address starts with https:// and ends with /api/v1/ . Expand Extra Options and disable Upload treatments if you also use another app to manage insulin, such as AndroidAPS. Otherwise, the same data may be uploaded twice. You can disable Alert on failures if you do not want a notification for every temporary network problem. Step 5 (optional): Set up a follower (xDrip Sync) If you want another phone, such as a parent's phone, to receive your readings directly from xDrip+, you can use xDrip Sync Follower .
